    What is Dental Areosol ?

In the dental office many dental procedures have the potential to create areosols and splatter. Aerosols are the tiny droplets or particles which remain suspended in the air during and after a procedure and are most commonly created from our dental equipment that requires air and water.

The risks of dental areosols can be reduced many ways.  At Maple Mews Dental we have been reducing areosols and reducing potential viruses in the air and in our dental systems following strict guidelines and protocols for over 20 years.  We are currently limiting the use of aerosol creating equipment, including not using the water scaler or ultrasonic scaling during dental hygiene procedures.

The use of high volume suction ( the big straw ) used during dental procedures reduces over 90% of dental areosols, the use of rubber dam during dental filling appointments when possible and the preprocedural antimicrobial mouth rinse that we have each patient do prior to dental treatment also is beneficial to reducing bacteria in the mouth, thus reducing areosols.

The areosols or pathogens that can be in the air after dental procedures can stay airborne for hours. Air purification systems can improve the quality of air for our patients and our team. Medical grade air purifiers remove chemicals, toxins, germs, odours and most importantly kill airborne viruses, to help reduce the spread of illness.

At Maple Mews Dental, we have invested in JADE air purification systems confident that our team and patients will be kept safe and healthy with clean air.

The JADE, air purification systems by Surgically Clean Air are strategically placed throughout Maple Mews Dental Office for optimal performance. The Jade system doesn’t just filter pollutants, germs and viruses.. it destroys them!

This unique purification system incorporates a six stage filtration system which includes a Hepa filter that captures 99.998% of all particles as well as utilizing UV-C light to destroy the viruses and bacteria.  We are utilizing this technology to clean, purify and re-energize every cubic foot of air at Maple Mews Dental !

We are confident that with the many procedures and protocols in place at our practice every day and with the enhancements that we have made recently, that your visit to Maple Mews Dental will be a safe one!
